Location

Desolation Wilderness is just to the southwest of Lake Tahoe.  We’ll enter the wilderness area through Echo Lakes off of Hwy. 50

Wednesday, June 17

  5:30 AM  -   Leave Las Lomitas

  7:30 AM  -   Vacaville/Davis breakfast

  9:30 AM  -   Arrive Echo Lakes (off Hwy 50)

10:00 AM  -   Take speedboat to other side of Echo Lakes

11:00 AM  -   Hike to Lake of the Wilderness

Afternoon  -   swimming in Lake of the Wilderness or catch critters

 

Thursday and Friday, June 18-19

  7:00 AM  -   breakfast 

  8:00 AM  -   break Camp and hike to Lake Aloha, then Lake Gilmore

12:00 PM  -   arrive Lake Aloha, Gilmore Lake

Afternoon  -   swimming or catch critters 

 

 

Saturday, June 20

  6:00 AM  -   breakfast

  7:00 AM  -   climb Mt. Tallac for view of Lake Tahoe (2 miles,

                   1300' climb, no packs)

10:00 AM  -   break camp and hike to Fallen Leaf Lake (4 miles,

                    2,000' all downhill)

  1:00 PM  -   lunch at Fallen Leaf Lodge, swimming in Fallen

                        Leaf Lake; drivers shuttle back to cars

  2:00 PM  -   leave Fallen Leaf

  6:00 PM  -   arrive Menlo Park

Meals

We’ll pack lightweight freeze-dried food, with a few enhancements, in bear canisters.  Meals included will be Wednesday L,D; Thursday and Friday B,L,D; Saturday B, plus trail snack.  Bring $15 cash for Thursday road stop breakfast and Saturday lunch at Fallen Leaf Lodge.  Also, please bring $35 check for trip expenses, including food and the Echo Lakes water taxi.  We’ll hand out food and tents on Sunday, June 14 at 7:30 PM at the Carharts (745 Windsor Drive in Menlo Park).
